Boyd signed for Luton from Hartlepool, for whom he scored 60 goals in 169 appearances, for £500,000 but he failed to hold a regular place in the first team. Following an approach from Orient, Luton agreed to release him from his contract thus completing the striking line up for the forthcoming season.
