Yeovil Town kept a clean sheet for the first time this season as they moved out of the bottom four in League One.

There was also some comfort for Leyton Orient who, despite remaining in the relegation positions, showed plenty of enterprise and have now got the big striker manager Martin Ling has been looking for in Sam Parkin.

Parkin joined on loan during the week from Luton Town but, against a tight Yeovil defence, was unable to test goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

It was the Glovers that created the best three chances of the match. The pick of them came in the 42nd minute when young right-back Craig Alcock - later to pick up the sponsor's man of the match award - found Scott Rendell with a great 50-yard pass.

Rendell, on loan from Peterborough United, flicked the ball on to Gary Roberts who was six yards out with only the keeper to beat. However, Glenn Morris spread himself well to save the close-range shot.

In the second half it was again a tight affair with Andy Welsh having his best game yet for Yeovil on the left wing.

He almost scored himself on 73 minutes when his shot was deflected for a corner and, six minutes from time, a well-placed free-kick was met by defender Gareth Owen who fired a drive against the top of the bar.

Right at the death it was Darren Way who again went close to giving Yeovil victory, with a header just off target.

After the stalemate, Ling hailed Parkin's debut, saying: "He's the big man I've craved. We now have two home games and, when he settles in, he should do us a lot of good."
